Beginning March 4, 1861, her pension ceased during the Civil War and her request following the Civil War for back payment from March 4, 1861 was approved February 8, 1868 -- less than a month after her death. William Flinn, Junior, signed a statement December 20, 1877, stating "he is the only child and Heir living of Nancy Flinn, late of said County Deceased, That Nancy Flinn, his Mother, was entitled to pay as a Pensioner at her Death, at the rate of Forty-Seven Dollars per annum from 4th March 1861 to 15th January 1868. Total amount (??) Three hundred and twenty two Dollars and Seventy cents, That she had not drawns any money on Said Pension Certificate No. 4795 Since 4th March 1861, That Mrs. Nancy Flinn was above the age of ninety years at the time of her Death, was very infirm in health and very Deaf and her eye Sight very much impaired for five years previous to her Death, that she took no parts in the late war neither did She aid the rebellion in any way, That Said amount of money due her at the time of her Death, is now due Deponent, Sworn to before me 20th December 1877 J. Comment by BT: How could they swear to this when Anderson Freeman Flinn and George Washington Flinn were alive in Alabama? He was the only living child in South Carolina and was probably entitled to the money since it appears he took care of his mother, but definitely not the only child living. Nancy West Flinn was iving with William Flinn, Jr., in the 1850 Edgefield County Census. Additional Comments: See Widow's Pension Files for Nancy West Flinn and Sarah West Pardue and Lilliston Pardue. Sarah Pardue states William and Nancy West Flinn were married August 22, 1793. If Nancy's age was 19 in 1792, then her birth record in the Bible is incorrect. However, she would have been 19 in August 1793, as her sister stated. Records were shared by a descendant of Lilliston Pardue and Sarah West Pardue and compared to records for Nancy West Flinn and William Flinn. Numerous family records were found in both, including the family of Nancy West Flinn and William Flinn in the pension records for Sarah West Pardue. Information provided by the family of a descendant of William Flinn and Nancy West Flinn's son Abraham Freeman Flinn and Nancy Caroline Barton Stewart Flinn through their son William Haywood Flinn and his first wife, Mary Lee Underwood.
