Pension Application Of John Rochelle, Natl Archives Microseries M804, Roll 2069, Application #W8567
Edgefield District, South Carolina, August 8, 1853, personally appeared 
Frederick Lucius, aged 89:
	“That John Rochelle is the son and true legal representative of Captain 
John Rochelle, deceased, who was a captain in the ninth (9th) regiment of the 
North Carolina Continentals, commanded by John Williams in the War of the 
Revolution. That this deponent became acquainted with Captain John Rochelle 
very soon after the war aforesaid and kept up an intimate acquaintance with the 
said Captain Rochelle, deceased until the day of his death…”

State of North Carolina Comptroller’s Office:
	“I. William Clarke, Comptroller of Public Accounts in and for the state 
aforesaid, do hereby certify that it appears of record in my office among the 
payments made by said state to sundry persons for military services in the 
Revolutionary War, as follows, to wit:

	“Captain John Rochell-Book No. 40, folio 4-Paid and charged to the 
United States in account of North Carolina against the U. S. as stated by 
military commissioners for services to 1st September 1778 and 12 months pay as 
Supernumerary $1741.15-Seventeen hundred and forty-one dollars and five cents.”

	“Said John Rochell appears as a captain in the 9th regiment, commanded 
by John Williams on the original roll of continental troops dated July 1777 and 
on another roll without date…”
