That this deponent became acquainted with Captain John Rochelle very soon after the war aforesaid and kept up an intimate acquaintance with the said Captain Rochelle, deceased until the day of his death…” State of North Carolina Comptroller’s Office: “I. William Clarke, Comptroller of Public Accounts in and for the state aforesaid, do hereby certify that it appears of record in my office among the payments made by said state to sundry persons for military services in the Revolutionary War, as follows, to wit: “Captain John Rochell-Book No. 40, folio 4-Paid and charged to the United States in account of North Carolina against the U.
