While running down a steep embankment a drop at the foot of five feet caused the weight of his body to fall on one leg, breaking both bones near the ankle and making an ugly flesh wound from which hemorrhages ensued. He was rushed to the University Hospital, Augusta, where he is doing well at this writing. Mrs Calhoun Kammer entertained for Mrs Ollie Hamilton, the past week. After a first course was served and a game of Rook, the pary of twenty five or more were invited into the dining room. Seated on the center of the dining talbe was little Beryl Kammer in cupid attire, around her neck hung a large heart and to the surprise of all was the announcement of the coming marriage, June 20, 1923, of Miss Ruby T Odom and Mr Lonnie Courtney. Miss Odom is one of Johnston's school teachers from Springfield and has made hosts of friends during her two years stay in our little city. Mr Courtney is a young buisness man of Johnston, with steady qualities. Their home will be near twon. After all exultations of surprise were ended, ice cream and cake was served with gold slippers as favors. Wm Wright and Mrs Stanton Lott are now members of the Baptist Sunday School orchestra, using the trombone and saxaphone. Mothers Day will be observed at the Baptist Church Sunday, May 13th at 11:15 am. All mothers and their children are especially invited to be present. A committee has been appointed by the Baptist Sunday School to beign soon the six point system in the Sunday School. A chorus of one hundred voices of the children is to be organized. Jas M Cates has been on a visit to Augusta the guest of the Quinns. Mr Andrews, of Raleigh, NC, will be in Johnston soon to make arrangements about the placing of the $500 drinking fountain left to the town by his mother in memory of her father, Mr Johnston, for whom the town is named. Mrs Jas Davis and little son have been visiting in Charlotte. Jessie Ballentine is at home from the hospital where he underwent an operation for appendicitis.
