Written: January 4, 1805 Recorded: February 19, 1806 Will of James BAKER, of Edgefield District, South Carolina “State of South Carolina Edgefield District In the name of God Amen— I James BAKER being of sound memory but in a low State of Health do make & ordain this my last will & testament (Viz) 1st I bequeath my soul to him that gave it me- & my Body I wish to be buried at the discretion of my Executors- 2dly I will & bequeath to my Dear beloved wife Elizabeth Baker all my land Negroes Horfes Cattle Stock of every kind also the crop of every discription that was made last year & she is to pay off all my Debts & then to divide it amongst my children all as she shall think fit (except my daughter Polley) also my Houfehold furniture & plantation tools of every kind to her to do with as she shall Judge meat 3dly I bequeath to my Daughter Polley four Negroes namely Due Immanuel Patrick McFes one horfe three Head of Cattle Hogs & C. all of which she now have got in pofsefsion— I do also will that Samuel C. Scott and my wife Elizabeth Baker, Jr & they are hereby appointed executor / and executrix / to this my last will [Signed //x//] Jas.
