Josiah Langley South Carolina Edgefield District In the Name of God Amen I Josiah Langley Sen being in atolarable State of health and of Sound mind and Memory but knowing that it is appointed for all men Once to die & being desirous of Setling My worldly Estate and Concerns whare with it has pleased God to blefs me do Make & ordain this My Last will & Testament in the following form & Manner (towit) 1st of all I Recommend My Soul into hand of Almighty God that Gave it & My Body to the earth to be Buried in a decent Christian Buriel 2d after My death I do will that all My Just [be Paid] (scatched out) debts to Paid and that all debts oweing to Me be Collected & My Cotton that I have on hands Sold to pay My debts & in Case the debts oweing me & My Cotton don’t pay the Same I will that all the tract of Land that I bought of Joseph Ginnings that Lies Joining James Harrison V.Samuel Hall be Sold by My Executors at Private Sale & the Money Arising From Such Sale to pay My debts & My Executors t Make Lawfull titels the said Land 3d I leave to the use of My wife Marry Langley dureing Life or widdowhood the tract of Land whare on I now Live containing one hundred acors which Land I bought of Samuel Carter two Negroes fanny & Sady all My plantation tools house hold & Kitchen furniture My two hors Carriage & two horses the brown bay hors & Sorrell Mare & half of All my Stock of acors of Land Lying on the North Side of Cuffeetown Creek binding on the said Creek Mathew Barrels Land Mathew Rhodes Land & that tract I bought of John Slappy & the five Notched Road, & to Run threw the Survey in as Square aform as it can 5 I give & bequeath unto My Son Henary Langley two hundred acors of Land to be Laid of on both sides of Cuffeetown Creek So as to take in the Mill & Join William Buffingtons Land & Thorntons Land & to Join the Land that I Bought of Thoams Levingston & then to Run threw the tract I Bought of Slappey Acrofs the Creek & threw the land I bought of Culpepper fas as to Make two hundred Acors & also two Negroes Named Major & Rubin two horses or My old Mule & Cream Collored Mule 6th I give and bequeath unto My Son William Langley one hundred & Sign Seal & Declare the same to be and Conten by last will & testament & that he the said Josiah Langley was then in his prefect mind & memory to the best of these desponant knowledge & --- -- & that being together with Wm H Buffington did Sign there ----- as Witnesses thereto at the request of the testator and in his presents same time qualified Henry & Wm Langley Exec. State of South Carolina, Edgefield District By John Simkins Esquire, Ordinary of the District aforesaid TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETINGS : KNOW YE, That on the sixth day of October in the year of our Lord, one thousand Eight hundred and twenty eight the last Will and Testament of Josiah Langley Late of this district, deceased, was proved in open court, and approved and allowed of before and bt the said Court, and the administration of all and singular te Goods and Chattels, Rights and Credits of the said deceased, within this State, was thereupon granted, and committed by the said Court, unto Henry Langley and William Langley named Executors in the said Will. Henry being first duly sworn, well and faithfully to administer, and make a full and perfect Inventory of all singular the said Goods and Chattels, Rights and Credits and to exhibit the same Inventory into the office of the Clerk of the Court of Ordinary aforesaid, in order to be recorded, on or before the Eighth day of December next, and to render a true and just account, calculation and reckoning thereof, when thereunto required.
