Edmondson Young 26 Oct 1998 ---------------------------------------- WILL OF WINNEYFORD WILLIAMS (Copied from Probate Records in Edgefield County, South Carolina) State of South Carolina Edgefield District I, Winneford Williams, widow of the State and District aforesaid, being sick in body but of sound mind and memory do make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following 1st. I will and bequeath to my daughter Patsy the wife of Thos. Howle and her children the following named negro slaves, Vis Mary and child Ross Lott and 2 children, Leetheu Ann and Jorcy, Darkers, Tobe, Mary Ann, and Sarah together with the future increase of the females but in the event of the death of my said daughter Patsy without leaving a child or children alive at her death, then it is my will that the property herein bequeathed to her be equally divided between my daughter Betsy and my 2 grandsons Thos. and John Williams they taking one half between them and my daughter Betsy the other half. 2nd. I will and bequeath to my daughter Betsy the wife of Ned Howle and to her children the following named negro slaves, Vis Rose, Hannah and two children, Marshall and Mary Charlott, Caroline, Hul and Little Tobe together with the future increase of the females, but in the event of the death of my said daughter leaving no child or children alive at her death then it is my will that the property herein bequeathed to her be equally divided between my daughter Patsy and my two grandsons Thomas and John Williams, they taking one half and my daughter Patsy the other half. 3rd. I will and bequeath to my two grandsons Thomas and John Williams the following named negro slaves, Vis Mariah, Sam George, Jane, Solomon and Dave together with the future increase of the females, also 200 dollars, but in the event of the death of one of them, before attaining the age of 21 years and leaving no child or children alive then it is my will that the survivor have the above named property, but in the event of the death of both of my grandsons before attaining the age of 21 years leaving no lawfully begotten child or children alive then that the property bequeathed them be equally divided between my two daughters Patsy and Betsy to them and their child or children. 4th. It is my Will and I do so order, that all my Land lying in this State and District containing ______ acres be equally divided into equal parts including the Island in Savannah River in the upper half which said half I give to my daughter Betsy Howle and the lower half to my daughter Patsy Howle. 5th. I will and bequeath to my 2 grandsons Thomas and John Williams my tract of land lying in the State of Ga. Lyncoln County containing 200 acres more or less which said tract I purchased from John Boyd. 6th. It is my Will and I do so order that all my personal Estate not herein disposed of should be sold and the net proceeds thereof, after paying my just debts and the Legacy above named by equally divided between my daughter Patsy, Betsy and my two grandsons Thomas and John Williams with authority to receive and manage the same. I do hereby declare and publish this as my Last and only true Will and Testament hereby revoking and making null and vod all other wills by me made in witness whereof I have heretofore set my Hand Seal this 29 day of November and in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty one (1851). South Carolina Edgefield District In the Court of Ordinary To H.T. Wright Esqs. Ordinary of Said District The Humble petition of Thomas Howle and Edward Howle Sheweth That Winniford Williams, late of the said District and State departed this life on or about the __ day of September A D 1854 having a will disposing of a portion of her Estate, and having other property not disposed of by will, which will had no Executor appointed to execute it. The Petitioners further show That the said Winniford left, besides the property embraced in her said will, the folling Val and personal Estate, to wit, one small tract of land in Lincoln Co., Geo., of about thirty five acres, more or less, and four negroes, Toicy and two children, Olive and Ann, and Sam and another likely boy; and corn, fodder, Stock of Cattle and Horses and plantation Tools, mules and etc; and many articles such as Blacksmith's toold, a gin and other articles pertaining to a farm. Your petitioners further state, that Winniford Williams left only two children, Martha, the wife of Thomas Howle, and Elizabeth the wife of Edward Howle and two grandchildren, Thomas and John, son of Osborn Williams, dec'd her son.
