January, 1999 The Cannada Family Cemetery, as it has been known for several generations in my family, is located on Lick Creek off St. Mark Rd. in Taylors. In the cemetery there are some twenty four old headstones, most unreadable. These are all old fieldstones laid out in long neat rows. The Cannada family owned the surrounding land for many years and the cemetery was not used after 1883. In 1885 when the family sold the land it was noted on records that they retain " 1/2 acre to be used for a family burying ground". As the land changed hands over the years other deeds noted the family retain " 1/4 acre for a family graveyard." Information in ( ) is added to clarify what is known of the families. Only three stones have any marking still readable: "R.C. died Feb 17, 1883" ( This being Rosa Davis Cannada, b. 1820, d. 17 Feb 1883, 2d wife of James J. Cannada. James and several of the other Cannada family are known to be buried here also.) "John F. Raney, To The CAC Men" (no dates, this is John J. Rainey, b. 1850, d. 19 Apr. 1873, married Mary Jane Cannada) One stone with the marking "1870" on the bottom, the upper portion being worn away.
