September 23, 1890 Greenville, S. C., September 16 -- The passenger train on the Laurens railroad was flagged down on Sunday afternoon last, near Child's crossroads, by a fourteen-year-old boy, named Samuel Thomas. When the train was stopped, the boy showed to Conductor Twigg that there was a broken rail, which, on examination, was found to be in such a condition that the train would have been thrown from the track and caused a serious accident. The place was repaired, and the train passed safely over.
