The deceased was an excellent farmer and by industry and economy made a handsome property. He was kind and liberal to the industrious poor, frequently refusing money for grain and letting the needy have it on time at a low price. In fact, his crib was looked upon as a last resort for those who could get bread nowhere else. He was a great reader of the Bible, and a very moral, upright man. Although he had not attached himself to any Church, he expressed a decided hope of meeting his Saviour in peace. He had left a widow, four children, and many grandchildren together with a large connection and friends to lament his loss.
