Landreth jrlandreth@earthlink.net October 16, 2008, 9:38 pm Source: Greenville County Probate Court Apt. 32, File 43 Written: June 18, 1869 Recorded: February 6, 1872 State of South Carolina Greenville County Know all men by these presents that I Larkin C Reynolds of the State and County aforesaid do make and publish this my last will and testament. 1st I will to my dearly beloved son Elsey Franklin Reynolds all that piece parcel or tract of land purchased by me of Greenberry Capps and lying on the head waters of Middle Saluda Fall and Gap Creek to have to hold to him and his heirs forever. I further will to my son Elsey Franklin Reynolds a lot of land lying in the village of Marietta containing three acres more or less that I purchased of Harriet Bates. 2nd The residue of my estate both in this state and in North Carolina I wish sold and divided equally among my lawful heirs. 3rd Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my dearly beloved son Elsey Franklin Reynolds the sole executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal in the presence of the subscribing witnesses who saw me sign and signed in the presence of each other this the 18th of June 1869. J Douthit Probate Judge for the County of Greenville Personally Appeared A. J. Cleveland & Caroline Choice subscribing witness to the annexed instrument of writing, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of L. C. Reynolds late of Greenville County deceased, who, being duly sworn, deposeth and saith that They were present, and did see the said instrument of writing duly executed by the said L. C. Reynolds And deponent further saith that the said L.C. Reynolds at the time of executing the said instrument of writing was, to the best of deponent’s knowledge and belief, of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding; and that A. J. Cleveland & Caroline Choice (the deponents) and W. C. Cleveland in the presence of each other, and of the said L. C. Reynolds and at his request, signed their names as witnesses, to the due execution of the same. Sworn and subscribed to before me, this 6th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy two. (signed: S J Douthit, A. J. (or T.) Cleveland, Caroline Choice) Additional Comments: Names found in the will include Larkin C Reynolds who was born in North Carolina in 1799 and his son Elsey Franklin Reynolds. Other names include witnesses A. J. (or T) Cleveland, W. C. Cleveland, and Caroline Choice. Mention was made of Greenberry Capps and Harriet Bates from whom Larkin bought land. Other names included in the estate records were granddaughter Minerva Caroline Baine of Hendersonville, NC who gave her brother, E J Bedingfield, permission to represent her in settling her grandfather's estate. There was also a paper from Larkin's daughter, Aley Caroline Reynolds Cox, of Cleveland, Greenville County, SC, giving her son authority to represent her.
