McDowell and claimed his mother, Mrs. Helon Allen, and bore her spirit away to the rest that remains to the people of God. She was near ninety years of age. She joined the Pine Grove Baptist church, was happily converted and lived a consistent Christian. She had been in feeble health for two or three years, but was able to be up till about five weeks before the end came. Grandma bore her allocations with Christian fortitude; her faith in the everlasting promises of God never wavered. All that a loving son, daughter, and affectionate grandchildren, and friends could do could not stay the hand of death. It was hard for those who so dearly loved grandma to resign to the cold embrace of unfeeling death, but God knew best and his will must be done. The funeral services were conducted at the home of her son by the Rev. Same J. Cains in the presence of a very large congregation using as the basis of his remarks Job xiv: 10 Grandma leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss but we feel that our loss is her eternal gain. Unveil thy bosom, faithful tomb, Take this new treasure to thy trust, And give these sacred relics room, To slumber in the silent dust. No pain, nor grief, nor anxious fear. Enshrouds thy bounds, no mortal woes, Can reach the peaceful sleep here, While angels watch the soft repose. So Jesus slept, God’s dying son, Passed thro’ the grave and blessed the bed; Rest here blest saint, till from his throne. The morning break and pierce the shade.
