In Loving Remembrance

D. H. Chestnut Sr.

On the evening of December 13, 1909, the death angel visited the home of Mr. 
O. A. Chestnut and took away his father, Mr. D. H. Chestnut, Sr., Aged 76 
years, 5 months, and 10 days. Grandpa you have gone and left us, but you are 
not forgotten. He leaves his wife and seven children-five sons and two 
daughters-five brothers and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and a 
large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss, but we hop our loss 
is her eternal gain. He was a member of Bethlehem and was a faithful and 
consistent member as long as he lived and died in faith. He was a Confederate 
veteran. He was in feeble health for several years but never gave up until 
three months before his death. All that loving hands and willing hears could 
do could not stay the icy hands of death. All that we can say is that the Lord 
gave and the Lord taketh away. 

I want to see you grandpa, but you are gone from us to never return but I hope 
we will meet you in heaven where there are no tears or sorrow.

Grandpa you have gone and left us,
But you are not forgotten,
Your trials on earth are ended,
And mine has just begun.

The day you left us will be long remembered and never forgotten
Your face we cannot see, a voice we love is still
A vacant place is in our home which never can be filled.

When this life is ended
And we no more shall be.
God our only defender.
Shall bear us over the lea.

May we find a home in heaven when our earthly task is done.
