In Loving Memory

Mrs. C. L. Edwards 

Mrs. C. L. Edwards was born February 2nd,1853, an died October 19th, 1908, 
aged 55 years, 9 months and 17 days. She was married to Mr. William Edwards 
January 11th, 1869, and to this union were born ten children. She was a 
devoted mother, a loving wife, and a good neighbor. My grandfather took me at 
the age of 7 years and we grew up together, and then after an absence of a few 
years I boarded with her and have lived nearby ever since. She joined the 
Methodist Episcopal Church South, about the age of 15 years and was happily 
converted to God through faith in the efficacy of the blood of Christ. She 
always responded to every benevolent call and was prompt in paying her 
preacher. On Sunday night before she died she held up both hands and said 
Jesus loved her and her daughter asked if she loved Jesus. She said she did 
and shouted and said she wanted to die and be with Jesus. To say that she had 
her faults and who among us has not, would be to say that she was human. The 
Apostle Paul says that when I would go good evil is present with me and that 
that I would do I do not.

While we feel that her death is our loss we hope that it is her eternal gain.
Farewell, to all below,

My Saviour calls and I must go;
I launch my beat upon the sea,
This land is not the land for me.
I cannot stay,
The home I seek is far away,
Where Christ is not I cannot be. 
This land is not the land for me,
The price was paid on Calvary,
