Negro Drowned

Fladger Ransom

Flager Ransom, a negro boy about 13 years of age, was accidentally drowned at 
Ransom’s Bluff down the river last Saturday afternoon. He had met at the river 
bank a number of other negro boys, and they were all taking a bath, when he 
offered to show the others how he could dive. He jumped in the water 
headforemost and struck the bottom either breaking his neck or causing 
concussion of the brain. When he failed to come back to the surface, the 
others became frightened and latter a crowd that had gathered took him from 
the water dead.
