She was born February the 24th, 1843, in Marion County, S. C. She joined the Missionary Baptist Church, Sept. 13th, 1859, and was baptized by the Rev. Gregory Rollins. She was a Miss Jackson until Dec. 21st, 1865 when she was married to Hamilton S. Smith. To this union was born nine children. Her husband and eight of her children preceded her to the grave several years age. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Christine Jenrette, and four grandchildren the names of which are Sam. T. Smith, Gussie, Beatrice, and Ben Hamilton Jenrette. She was a great worker in the Sunday School as long as her health would permit. She also taught in the public schools in both Horry and Marion Counties. She was a devoted Christian and loved to talk of her hope of Heaven. Dear Grandma, you have passed from our sight, but the sweet memories of you and the little prayers you taught us, and the songs you used to sing will ever live in our hearts where an aching void has been created. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at Antioch Church of which she was a member. Her loving Grand-daughter Gussie V.
