Horry Herald December 18, 1913
On November 20th, 1913, the death angel visited the home of Mr. Patrick
Thompkins and took from him his dearly beloved little darling baby, who was sick
only a few hours with an awful case of Pneumonia. All was done that kind hearts
and loving hands could do, but the Lord knew best and He took the darling to
live with him. Talmage Mayo Thompkins was a kind and loving little baby. He was
only one year and one month old when he died. He leaves behind to mourn the loss
his mother, father and little sister and many relatives and friends who knew him.


So fades the lovely blooming flower,
The smiling solace of an hour;
So soon our transient comforts fly
And pleasure only blooms to die.


Is there no kind, no healing art,
To soothe the anguish of the heart?
Spirit of grace, be ever nigh;
Thy comforts are not made to die.


Let gentle patience smile on pain,
Till dying hope revives again;

Hope wipes the tear from sorrow’s eye,
And faith points upward to the sky.
