B. Watts, aged 28 years, while at work at South Rocky Mount this morning, was run over and his body badly mangled by shifting engine No. 182, at a point near the office on the south yard. The injured man had both legs cut off near his body. He was picked up and hurried to the Atlantic Coast Line Relief Hospital in a few minutes after the accident, and medical attention was given him at once, but he died in less than an hour after arriving at the hospital. According to eye witnesses, the young man was watching an incoming train and stepped in from of the yard engine which was coming down another track. It was impossible to stop the engine, in so short distance, and the young man failed to heed any of the warnings of the whistle and bell of the whistle. Mr. Watts has been employed as an inspector on the yard here for the past two months, having removed here from Wilmington to accept this position though he had not brought his wife here as yet, and he is survived a widow in Wilmington, while his parents and several brothers and sisters live in Bayboro, S. C. The remains are in a local untaking establishment awaiting the arrival or instructions from the family as to whether or not they shall be sent to Wilmington or to the parents of the young man at Bayboro.
