H. J. Whaley and called him from our midst to join the loved ones that preceded him to the better land. Oh, it was so hard to give him up but yet we can say in the language of the text, that we weep not like those who have no hope. For several years he was a faithful member of the Britton’s Neck Baptist Church. He was always loyal to his church. He was also a true and faithful husband and father. For three years he was a sufferer at times with a head trouble but no one seemed to realize his end was near but himself. He often spoke of it but said it all was well with him that he did not fear death and bore his afflictions without a murmur. He was only confined to his bed three days when the good Lord said come up higher. He died as he lived; trusting in his God and his promises. He was 60 years of age and leaves a wife and several children to mourn their loss. But blessed thought, we realize that our loss is his gain and not dead but sleepth awaiting the resurrection mourn. He was laid to rest at Friendship cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Mr. Graham. Sleep on papa take your rest, Why should we mourn that thou are blest?
