R. Smith of Marion Uses Knife to Stop Blows of Younger Man. Marion, Nov. 11 – As a result of knife wounds, near his heart, inflicted by his father, E. R. (“Ned”) Smith, last night, young Albert Smith of Rains died this morning at the Mullins Hospital. The trouble is said to have occurred at the home of Albert Smith where the younger man was beating his father. The latter, who is of small stature, drew his know and stabbed his son in the chest. It is reported that young Smith had on former occasions administered beatings to his father. After an examination by a physician, Albert Smith was rushed to the hospital, where he lingered through the night. In going for a doctor for her wounded husband, Mrs. Smith turned her car over in the road but was not seriously injured. E. R. Smith, after the death of his son, came to Marion and surrendered to Mrs. Mae Gum Gasque, sheriff. A coroner’s jury was empaneled [sic] and viewed the body, but the inquest will not be held until Friday morning. The body will be conveyed from Marion to Beuna [sic] Vista, Ga., Thursday for burial. Albert Smith is survived by his mother and father, his wife, and one small daughter.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/sc/marion/newspapers/fathersl29gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/scfiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
