Marlborough District

State of South Carolina)
Know all men by these presents that I John ADAMS of Marlborough District and 
State aforesaid planter in consideration of the Sum of Two hundred Dollars to 
me paid by David MONTGOMERY of said District and State aforesaid have Granted 
bargained Sold and released & by these presents do Grant bargain Sell and 
release unto the said David MONTGOMERY a certain piece parcel or dividend of 
Land containing one hundred and twenty eight acres more or less being part of a 
Tract of Two hundred and forty five Acres of Land originally Granted to Mark 
MASON by his Excellency Charles PINCKNEY then Governor and Commander in Chief 
in and over the said State bearing date February 5th 1798.  The one hundred and 
Twenty Eight Acres more or less hereby Conveyed is laid of as follows Viz, 
beginning at a Stake marked 3X from thence running NE. 82.00 12 chains to a 
post oak marked + thence NE 35 Degrees 25 chains to a pine stump marked + 
thence to a stake marked __ thence NW 24.00 53 chains & 30 links to a pine 
marked + thence S.W. 77 (?) 12 chains and 25 links.  Thence with Crooked Creek 
to William LISTER’s line.  Thence with said line to the beginning.  The same 
was transferred by the said Mark MASON to Shockley ADAMS the 8th of March 1799 
and by Shockley ADAMS to Valentine MORRISS Novr. 18th, 1802, by Valentine 
MORRISS to me. September 6th 1804.  Together with all and singular the rights 
members hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in 
anywise incident or appertaining  To Have and to hold the premises before 
mentioned more or less unto the said David MONTGOMERY his heirs and assigns 
forever and I do hereby bind myself my heirs Executors and administrators to 
warrant and forever defend the said premises(more or less) unto the said David 
MONTGOMERY his heirs and assigns against myself and my heirs and against all 
manner of persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof 
under me or them.
Witness my hand and Seal this twenty eighth day of May in the year of our lord 
one thousand eight hundred and Twenty three
