Pension Application Of William Martin, Natl Archives Microseries M804, Roll 1643, Application #S38930
Edgefield District, SC, September 29th, 1819, William Martin, aged sixty-five 
years, a resident on Penn Creek:

	“That he, the said William Martin enlisted in _____ [left blank] 
shortly before the Declaration of Independence on Thompson Creek on the Peedee 
River, SC above Cheraw Hills, in the company commanded by John Dallison or 
Dollison [it was Donaldson] of the infantry in the (he believes) the [inkblot] 
regiment of the continental troops commanded by Colonel John Thompson. That he 
served in this corps fifteen months and nine months besides under Captain Mills 
of the __ regiment, which was commanded by Colonel Ramsay at the end of which 
he was discharged in Charleston, SC. That he was in the Battle of Sullivan’s 
Island, at Stono, and at Savannah, when it was attacked by the Americans, being 
in possession of the British.”
