At this time, this applicant resided in the state of South Carolina near the Cheraw Hills at which latter place the said Captain Council was stationed. This was the first tour and continued 3 months. The 2nd time applicant was called into the service was by draft and not long after this first tour as above mentioned. This tour continued 3 months under the command of Colonel William Davis and Captain Goodbolt.” “The 3rd tour this applicant took was under Captain Foxworth, which continued 3 months during which time they joined Colonel Baxter and his forces. They marched to Black Lake on the Pedee and there had a skirmish with a party of Tories who were employed in transporting munitions of war to the enemy. Took their vessel together with their cargoes, and from thence marched and joined General Marion at a place called Britton’s Neck between the two Peedees near their junction, and from there their forces united and marched to Bowling Green.” “From thence they marched a southwest direction to a place called Beaufort near which place they had a skirmish with a party of mounted dragoons consisting of Negroes and [inkblot]-Tories? They were commanded by John Ray who was killed in the skirmish, together with 7 of his men. The Whigs lost no lives. From this place they returned to Beaufort. During all this service (after they joined Marion) this applicant served under one Captain Joseph Hudson. At Beaufort, this applicant states that he was discharged having served three months.” “The 4th time this applicant was in the service, he volunteered under Colonel Baxter and Captain Hudson. Their whole business was to reconnoiter the country in search of the enemy. This tour continued only 40 days and this applicant was discharge. The 5th tour, this applicant volunteered under Captain Lewis Harrol and Colonel Hugh Giles. Was absent 10 days in search of a party of Tories. Had a skirmish with a party of Tories, returned home and was discharged.” “He was born in North Carolina, Anson County A.D. 1752, 12th day of June.
