Contributed to The SCGenWeb Archives by: Tonia Parker 1 Apr 2001 ---------------------------------------- Jordan Holcombe Born November 19, 1762 Bute County, N.C.and when about fourteen years of age moved with his father to Spartanburg District, S.C. His father, William J. Holcombe was killed in an engagement with the Tories during the Revolutionary War. While residing in Spartanburg District, S.C. Jordan Holcombe volunteered October 8, 1780, served as private in Captain John Lawson's company in Colonel Thomas' South Carolina regiment and was employed in protecting the country against the Tories and was discharded April 1, 1781. He reenlisted on the same day and served four months as private in Captain Jeremiah Dixon's company in Colonel Roebuck's South Carolina regiment. About August 1, 1781, he volunteered and served three months as private in a company of S.C. rangers under Captain Culverson and was engaged in protecting the frontier. During his service he went on an expedition to Mud Lick Fort which was in possession of the Tories. After the Revolution, Jordan Holcombe lived in Spartanburg, Greenville and Anderson Districts, S.C. In 1832, he moved to Hall County, Georgia, to live with a daughter, his son with whom he lived in S.C. having died.
