Contributed to The USGenWeb Archives by: Helen Pond (hpond@alltel.net) 8 Sep 1998, amended 10 Oct 1998 with cemetery information ---------------------------------------- The bible was the possession of one M E WHITE.  For documentation purposes, the fly page reads:                    "Published by The National Publishing Company, Jones Brothers & Co. Continental Publishing CO., A. L. Bancroft & Co." On the back of the page it says: "Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1870 by J.R.JONES, In the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington, District of Columbia." In the center of this bible is a section devoted to Marriages, Births and Deaths.  It is from here that the following has been transcribed by me this date 09-08-98: William Milton WHITE m. Mary Emma FOSTER (b. Nov. 8, 1873) on Dec. 21, 1893 Children:   Lena Azalea b. Oct. 19, 1894   Mary Eunice b. April 30, 1897   Archie Foster b. Nov. 24, 1900   Helen Della b. April 21, 1905 d. June 2, 1952 (this is my grandmother who changed her name to Helen Gwendolyn before she married Harley Frank Strong, Sr. and they had one child, my father, Harley Frank Strong, Jr.)   Milton Edward b. Jan. 12, 1909   Robert Marion b. April 19, 1912 Also listed here are William G. and Amanda White, whose children were:   John William b. April 3, 1851   Agnews Lourianna b. March 3, 1853   Jane Catharine b. Oct. 5, 1855   Foster Daniel b. May 17, 1857   Nancy Ann Walton White b. Aug. 19, 1859   Sarah Talitha b. Jan. 13, 1862   Jimmy Lee Jay b. Aug. 3, 1864 Another listing was Milton and Amanda Cheatham who sired Mary Francis on April 3, 1846.  No other information listed on this union. After that was a listing for a John White whose children were:   Lougenia Francis b. Dec. 5, 1853   Mary Virginia b. Dec. 12, 1855   James Preston b. Dec. 25, 1857   Lily Elizabeth b. April 12, 1860   Catharine ? b. April 30, 1866 Listed separately were the following:  Amanda Catharine d. Feb. 15, 1915, Robert White d. Oct. 13, 1890, Martha E. White d. May 15, 1879. And then there was this interesting little tidbit:   Robert W. White and Alice ? Davis m. May 3, 1881.  Further over on another page was this notation:  "R. W. & Alice - Wallace G. b. Jan. 5, 1883."  That's all on that one. There was one short listing for Milton and Amanda Cheatham:   Martha Elizabeth b. Dec. 6, 1844   And before that was   Joseph and Julyann   Robert Wesley b. Dec. 10, 1844 Anyway back to the beginning.  I guess the most complete listing was this one which I saved for last: R. W. WHITE (Newberry County) m. M.E. CHEATHAM (Edgefield County) July 13, 1865   Children were:  Mary Francis b. May 7, 1866   Amanda Elizabeth b. Apr. 10, 1868 d. Jan. 21, 1872   Patsy Ann b. Nov. 30, 1869 d. July 8, 1873   William Milton b. Sept. 27, 1871   Josie S. b. Feb. 17, 1879 My lineage goes like this I think:   Helen Elizabeth Strong       d of Harley Frank STRONG, Jr.       s. of Harley Frank STRONG Sr. and Helen Della (Gwendolyn) WHITE              s. of don't know from here on him            hers is listed above all the way back to John Marion FOSTER on her mother's side. I also have a very old, very faded and yellowed newspaper obit that I found in same bible on John Marion FOSTER's death which lists all of his children but the women are listed by their married names.  Says he was born in Anderson and came to Newberry to work at the cotton mill as engineer.  He was the last surviving member of his father's family according to this clipping.  Also, he was given full Masonic rites at the funeral.   It says "Mr. Foster leaves a widow and the following sons and daughters:  Mr. Jr. R. Foster of Columbia, Mr. J. H. Foster of Roanoke, Va., Mr. O. H. Foster of this city, Mrs. T. J. Oxnard of Kinards, Mrs. J. W. Eargle of Atlanta and Mrs. W. M. White (my ggrandmother) of Atlanta and one stepson, Mr. B. D. Grice of Warrenville, S. C., all of whom were present."    It also stated that he lived at 2207 Nance Street and was aged 77 years at the time of his death due to Brights disease.  He was buried in Rosemont Cemetary. Pallbearers were listed and may be of help to someone else researching so I will include them:  Dr. M. Van Smith, R. G. Parks, H. H. Mayer, Simeon Bickley, W. H. Hardeman, James Outzs, Arthur Kibler and J. B. McDowell. CEMETERY INFORMATION: Atlanta, Georgia All of the following are buried at Greenwood Cemetary Section A Row 9.   William Milton White b.
