Contributed to The USGenWeb Archives by: Beth Collins ********************************************************************** Newberry County, Box 11, Package 14 Will of Samuel Hughens In the Name of God Amen I Samuel Hughens of the State of South Carolina & District of Newberry Being Verry Sick & weak in body but of perfect Sound Mind & Disposing Memory thanks be to God for his mercy have thought fit to make this my Last Will & testament in manner & form following, First of all I will & Bequeath my Soul unto god who gave it & as to my Earthly part I Recommend the Same to the Earth, to be Decently Buried at the Discretiion of my Executors herein after named in a Christian like manner; & as Touching Such worldly Goods as it hath Pleased God to bless me in this life with I Bequeath & Dispose of the Same in the following Manner --- Item I will & Desire that all my Just Debts & Funeral Charges be punctually & Timely paid by my Excrs --- Item I will & Bequeath to my Beloved Son Samuel Hughens my Bay Mare Caleb Pidgeon which he has in his possession to him & his Heirs Forever--- Item I will & Bequeath to my Beloved [TORN] Christopher Hughens one Bay Horse _____ Figure to him and his Heirs forever --- Item I will & Bequeath To my Loving Daughters Namely Mabel Hughens, Nancy Hughens & Betsy Hughens Each of them one Feather Bead & furniture One Horse Creature to be Valued to Seventy Dollars Saddle & Bridles & One Cow & Calf (which is to portion them of Equal to their sisters that is Married) to be paid to them by My executors when they Shall Marry or Come of age to Receive the Same --- Item I will & Bequeath to my Son Samuel Hughens One Bag of Cotton to go Towards the payment of a Tract of Land which he Purchased From Henry Steatdam; Item My Will & Desire that all my Personal property Be Kept Together on the premises where I now live for the term of One year from the Date of that of the Ensuing Crop that Shall be made on Said Premises to be Disposed of is to go towards the payment of the above mentioned land that my Son Samuel Hughens Purchased of Henry Steatdam as above – Item I will & Desire that after the Expiration of the year that all my moveable property Except what is already Willed to be Sold and the Moneys arising from the Sale of the Same to be Equally Divided among all my Children Namely Robert Hughens, Molly Wilson Samuel Hughens, Christopher Hughens, Mabel Hughens, Nancy Hughens & Elizabeth Hughens share & Share alike Item I do hereby Nominate & authorize my Executors hereafter Named to Make Sale of MY Lands to the Best advantage they can that is to say this Tract of Land I now live upon containing One Hundred & Twenty Seven Acres also one other Tract of Land Lying in Laurence District upon Cane Creek Containing three Hundred & forty Eight Acres Either By Giving a Credit or to Dispose of the Same to the Best advantage they can & the Money arising from the Sales of my Lands aforesaid is to be Equally Divided Between My above Mentioned Children Robert Hughens, Molly Wilson, Samuel Hughens Christopher Hughens Mabel Hughens Nancy Hughens & Elizabeth Hughens to Each Share & Share alike --- Lastly I do hereby Constitute and appoint My Beloved Son Samuel Hughens & My Son in law Thomas Wilson Executors to this My Last Will & Testament – Ratifying & Confirming this & No Other to be my Last Will & Testament & I do hereby utterly Disanull & Revoke Every other Wills By me heretofore made In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & affixed my Seal this 22nd Day of January 1807 Signed Sealed & acknowledged by the } Testator to be his last Will & Testament } his In the presence of us who in his presence } Samuel o Hughens & at his Bequest & in the presence of } mark Each Other Signed our Names to } As witnesses to the Same --- } Benj Crumly his Michael x Burtz mark Henry Coates
