Quarterly Conference records, located in the archives section of Wofford College Library, Spartanburg, SC, contain records for the Old Pickens Circuit which includes the first mention of Friendship. A Quarterly Conference was held at Friendship on March 17, 1849. The first building was a log structure on the present lot but was in a north and south direction. On December 25, 1865, Mrs. Charlotte Campbell deeded to the trustees of Friendship Methodist Church three and one-half acres of land lying between three roads leading to Pendleton, Townville, and Bachelor's Retreat. Later, the present church was built and is now facing west. Mrs. Campbell gave the land in memory of her sons who were killed while serving in the Confederate Army during the War Between the States. Descendants of Mrs. Campbell are currently members of Friendship. Along with the Campbell family, some other early members were the Wrights, Crooks, Phillips, Coxs, Mintons, Moores, Sears, Dillards, and Timms. The Church had never owned a parsonage until 1979 when a house was given to Friendship with the stipulation the church pay for moving the house from its present location. Members Jesse and Laurel Smith gave land on Friendship Valley Road for this purpose. It was only a few short years later, May 3, 1981, when Bishop Tullis of the South Caroline Methodist Conference dedicated the parsonage and the burning of the mortgage. Friendship UMC is currently on a two-circuit charge being served by the Reverend Richard Rogers. DATAFILE INPUT . : Paul M.
