They gazed upon the high blue mountains And looked across the fertile sods. Then built their city amidst the hills, "Walhalla, The Garden of the Gods." Tall linden trees lined her long, wide streets. At her center, her church, from whose steeple, Rising in chaste beauty toward the sky, Rang the call of worship to her people. One hundred years, how gentle their passing! How light their touch upon her brow! She was fair and lovely at her founding, And grace and beauty crown her now! ....Willie Howard Ballenger Willie Howard Ballenger (1895-1973) was the wife of Sidney H. Ballenger (1894- 1954).
