In commemoration of the church's 100th year of existence, a Homecoming celebration began on Sunday morning, September 2, with revival services lead by Evangelist Maze Jackson. Services were also held on the evenings of September 7. To conclude the observance, another special service was held on Sunday, September 9, when present and former members and pastors gathered for worship and afterwards reminisced around the tables in the fellowship hall where they met for congregate dining. According to the historical records of the church, which didn't include all of the names of the pastors of the church or other such completed data, the church was organized on September 2, 1890 when eight men established a place of worship in their community. The men signed a charter at the Pickens County Courthouse to make Golden Creek Baptist Church "a recognized name and a place where people could come for worship." The men purchased a small parcel of land and constructed a church building and as the congregation grew in numbers so did the need for a larger building. A second building was constructed in 1928, which included classroom wings and a large wood-burning heater that was placed in the center of the sanctuary. The building served the community as a gathering place for worship for the following 31 years. According to the records, the year 1959 was a challenging one for the members of Golden Creek Baptist Church. Although monetary funds were not available, the decision was made to construct a larger church building on an additional seven acres of land which were purchased earlier from the Wallace Cantrell family for $1. By this time, Sunday school classes were being held outside in the member's cars since the space inside the building was already being used. By faith, according to historical reports, some members took out personal loans and mortgaged their homes to pay for the new church building which was constructed of brick and had its own baptismal pool. (The members were baptized prior to that in the Twelve Mile River.) That building was torn down in 1978 and the present building was constructed. "For one hundred years, God has blessed His people."
