The church was used for regular services until the late 1930s. Today there are services held one Sunday a month conducted by Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens. The church also hosts one of the best old- fashioned Christmas pageants in the area. The church cemetery has many pioneers of the area buried in it. The gravesite of Daniel Boone's niece (daughter of Samuel Boone) is said to be located in the church cemetery. To get to the church, take Hwy 178 North out of Pickens to Hwy 11, turn left. Stay on Hwy 11 until you get to Roy F. Jones Hwy. and turn right. Follow that down to Cleo Chapman Hwy. and turn left. Follow the signs for the church for several miles. The church is located near the end of the road in Keowee Vineyards. For information call (864) 878-2161. o----------o McKINNEY CHAPEL In the upper section of Big Eastatoe in Pickens County is McKinney's Chapel United Methodist Church. This church was named for the McKinney family who settled in the area in the early 1800s as noted on the 1820 Mills Atlas. The first located written record located by the author was found at the Methodist Church Archives at Wofford College. McKinney is listed in 1891 as part of the North Pickens Circuit and the Blue Ridge Mission. In the 1937 Minutes of Upper South Carolina Methodist Church one of the discontinued churches is McKinney's. The record further states that the "membership at McKinney's is to go to Grace Methodist at Pickens" Billy Edwards Jr., grandson of Gene and Georgia Chapman, as a young child commented that the old church was left in darkness. After the church close encounter with a forest fire in the early 1980s, the Chapman's and the community decided to renovate the church.
