In 1868 when the church was organized, the entire South was undergoing many changes during the Reconstruction Period. This was evident in the founding of this church. Some records of the Reedy River Baptist Church show the status of the last black members: * June 1858 - Permission granted to Gabriel, a colored man, to preach at Reedy River once a month. F.W. Young, F.M. Marchbanks and T.W. Roe to attend and keep order. * January 1858 - Granted a letter of dismissal to Juliet Benson, a colored woman. This was the last colored member to be dismissed from Reedy River Church. * March 22, 1868 - By request of Jack Harmons, a colored member, to preach was granted, and to ordain him to the ministry on the Sabbath in April. * April 1868 - Elder H.B. Jones and Elder Williams, DD attended to the ordination of Jacob Hamons (note: March entry name looks like Jack - April entry name looks like Jacob) In January of 1868, Deacon Frank Mansell established Shoals Creek Church. The first meetings were held in a brush harbor in Greenville County off Row (Roe) Ford Road. They then moved their place of worship into a building. In 1919 Shoals Creek was rebuilt. In 1958 the congregation found that their "progressive growth necessitated the expansion of a new church". At that time the church voted to build a new sanctuary. "Renovations in later years included many accomplishments, such as the purchasing of musical instruments, classroom facilities, a fellowship hall, and complete carpeting of the sanctuary. Additional land was also purchased to accommodate parking and expansion of burial space." Pastors of Shoals Creek: Rev. Robert Anthony Rev. George Earle Rev. Riley Sullivan Rev. John Baily Rev. J.H.
