CLERK OF COURTS OFFICE, PICKENS, S. C.

To the Honorable Board of County Commissioners for Pickens County.

   The undersigned most respectfully petition your Board for a license to retail
spiritious liquor at his house in said county from the 12 day of Feby 1869 to
1st of May 1869, and your petitioner will ever pray &c.
March 23, 1869            Jesse Crenshaw

   We the undersigned recommend Jesse Crenshaw as a fit and suitable person to
retail spiritious liquors.

Mr. Jesse Crenshaw
I am instructed by the Board of County Commissioners to notify you that unless
you comply with the law in relation to Retailing Spiritious Liquors that the law
will be enforced against you. By order of the Board

Mr. J. E. Hagood
   Dear Sir, I have neglected returning the paper back to you but I hope that it
will be right. I have not sold the amount of ten gallons of whiskey since I
taken oute lisones the black aids rumors has running mee and all so I am redy to
pay what ever I ow at eny time when ever I now how to pay too and allso I hope
that you will bee as strict on others as you ar on mee I have not solde no
whiskey sence the firste of May and dont expect to till I get new papers.
