TAVERN LICENSE
CLERK OF COURTS OFFICE, PICKENS, S. C.

To the Honorable Board of County Commissioners of Pickens County.

   The Humble Petition of the undersigned a Citizen of Pickens County.

   Respectfully petition your Honorable for a Tavern License to keep a Tavern
and Retail Spiritious Liquors at my house where I now live on the main road from
Pickens to Slabtown for one year. Your petitioner is prepared to keep a Tavern
and has at least two spare beds, and necessary bedding, more than are required
for the family of the said applicant, and I am well provided with house room and
stabling and provender for four horses.

June 1, 1872              John M. Hendricks

   We the undersigned Citizens residing in the neighborhood, where the said John
M. Hendricks proposes to open a Tavern and keep a Tavern License and we certify
that the said John M. Hendricks is a gentleman of good repute for honesty and
sobriety, and is known to us, to have at least two spare beds and necessary
bedding, more than are required for the family of the said applicant, and is
well provided with house room stabling and provender for four horses.
