W. ALLEN TO J. W. EARLE PACK. 182 DEED OF TRUST CLERK OF COURTS OFFICE, PICKENS, S. C. The State of South Carolina Know all men by these presents That I Lafayett W. Allen of Pickens District and State aforesaid for and in consideration of the natural love good will and affection which I the said Lafayett W. Allen has for and toward my little Daughter Elizabeth Luella Allen who is about five years of age and where of is hereby acknowledged Have bargained sold and in plain open market delivered and by these presents do hereby bargain sell and in plain open market deliver unto the said Dr. James W. Earle trustee the following negro slaves viz Sarah a yellow Girl about eighteen years of age, Ben a boy about fourteen years of age, Jim a boy about Twelve years of age and Letty a girl about four years of age, Together with their increase. To have and to hold the said Sarah, Ben, Jim and Letty and all the future increase of the Females if there should be any unto the said J. W. Earle in Trust for the sole benefit and enjoyment of my said Daughter Elizabeth L. Allen during her natural life, and after her death to such Heir or Heirs as she may leave to be equally divided amongst them share and share alike should the said Elizabeth Luella Allen leave no heir of her own body or die before she should arrive of full age, that then and in that case the said negro slaves and their increase is to revert to Wm. L. Keith his Heirs or assigns Executors or Administrators and become a part of his Estate agreeable to the meaning and intention of any fonner deed heretofore sealed and accepted my myself, if the said Dr. James W. Earle trustee die before the said Elizabeth Luella Allen arrives of full age, that then and in that case his Heirs Executors or Administrators shall and may have full power and authority to take the said slaves into their possession and the same retain and hold until a new Trustee may be appointed to act in his stead, it is further covananted and agreed that, if the said negro slaves should be attempted to be removed from the said District of Pickens or State that then and in that case the said J. W. Earle Trustee shall have full power and authority to take the same into hi s own possession it is further agreed that the said J. W. Earle shall see that the said negro slaves be humanely and well treated, it is further agreed and I do hereby direct the said J. W. Earle to act and do with the said negro slaves as he thinks will be most to the advantage of the said E. L. Allen, and the Trustee is hereby directed to do all in his power for the safety or seeing to and securing the said property and the increase to the said Elizabeth L. Allen in every respect, fully in the said matter. In witness whereof I the said Lafayett W. Allen have hereunto set his hand & seal this eleventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four and in the seventy eighth year of American Independence. Earle the Trustee named in the annexed deed of trust, do hereby signify my acceptance to the Trust therein specified and stated.
