Deed Book B-1 p. 13-14 Benjamin Chastain to Gabriel Benson The State of South Carolina Know all men by these presents that I Benjamin Chastain in the State aforesaid and district of Pendleton for and in consideration of Seven Hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by Gabriel Benson of the State aforesaid and District Greenville have granted bargained sold and released and by these presents do grant bargain sell and release unto the said Gabriel Benson all that tract or parcel of land situated in Pendleton District on Weavers Creek (of the Oolenoy) waters of the South fork of Saluda River originally granted to Big Samuel and Little Samuel Weaver and since granted to Benjamin Chastain 3rd January 1814 the part conveyed begins at a box oak and runs S88E19 chs to the Waggon Road thence along said road to Joshua Ropers line thence with his line N20W5 chs to stake thence N10E42 chs to post oak thence N80 __ to Cornelius Keith's lines thence along his lines to Wm. Reid's old surveys thence to the beginning including all land originally granted to said Weavers & Chastain clear of other claims containing three hundred acres more or less together with all and singular the rights members hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or anywise _____ or appertaining. To have and to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Abriel Benson his heirs and assigns forever. And I do hereby bing myself my heirs executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said Gabriel Benson his heirs and assigns against myself and my heirs and against every person whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. Witmess my hand/seal this eighth day of October in the year of our Lord one housand eight hundred and seventeen and in forty first year of the Independence of the United States of America. The State of South Carolina Pendleton District I james Southerland one of the Justices of the Puorcum for the Dist aforesaid do hereby certify unto all whom it may concern that Rebeckah Chastain the wife of the within named Benjamin Chastain did this day appear before me and upon being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she does freely voluntarily and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomsoever renounce release and forever relinquish unto the within named Gabriel Benson his heirs and assigns all her interest and estate and also all her right and claim of dower of it unto all and singular the premises wherein mentioned and released given under my hand and seal this 18th day of September.
