Dodson, Last Will and Testament, Oct. 24, 1862 State of South Carolina, Pickens District I George W. DODSON being of sound mind and of disposing mindory -- being on the eav of returning to the Army -- and it may be may menia return and desiring to provide for my family as best I can. Do make ordain and establish this my last will and testament as follows to wit -- it is my will and desire that all my just debts be paid as soon as can be, and the balance of my property as follows five head of cattle. 8 head of hogs, 3 ????. House hold & kitchen furniture lot of corn 100 bushels more or less & in short all my property of every kind whatsoever be to my wife and children to have for their own use and benefit without sale -- and to desire in the end, share and share, alike. it is my will and desire that my mule be sold by my executor at ????? or public sale, and the proceeds be paid out (ink blot) my debts, and the balance if any, be appropriated for the benefit of my wife and children. to the best of his judgement -- my farming tools all that may be of use to my family not be sold, and if any not of use in the discretion of my executor, here after named, be sold or any other property not needed for the raising of my children be sold at the discretion of my said executor and the proceeds invested for the benefit of my children and to be divided in the end share and share alike -- I hereby nominate and appoint my true friend Levi N. ROBINS to be my executor. Given under my hand and seal this twenty fourth October 1862 George W. DODSON (Seal) Signed sealed and delivered in presence of Samuel (his mark) YOUNGBLOOD, R. E. STEELO (STEELE), M. G. ROBINS Dec. 7, 1863 Samuel YOUNGBLOOD appeared before W. E. HOLCOMBE, O.P.D. and "on oath said that he was present and did see George W. DODSON sign & Seal the foregoing as ????? for his last will and testament." The estate was appraised by John STEWART, John OBRIANT (OBRYANT), Eli ALEXANDER on Dec. 29th, 1863 (others in the appraisers pool, Robert CRAIG and Samuel YOUNGBLOOD). The value of the estate $1481.00. The mule was sold on Feb. 1, 1864 for $690 at the Pickens Court House and a portion of the estate's personal property on Feb. 2, at the residence.
