OLD CHESNEE CEMETERY, Chesnee, Spartanburg County, South Carolin Survey done by W.D. (Bill) Floyd December 20, 1997 Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by W.D. (Bill) Floyd - wdfloyd@rfci.net This cemetery is just outside the city limits of Chesnee, SC on the northwest side of town. To get to it just go west on SC 11 until you see the big white water tank on the north side of SC 11, less than half a mile, as you go by the tank, which is not right beside SC 11 but a few hundred feet to the north. Once you see the tank just make your way to it and you will find a mobile home park just to the east of the tank. Go into the park and take the first right and go to the end of the drive and the cemetery is in the woods directly east and adjoining the park. This is the biggest mess that I have seen in a relatively late cemetery, burials as late as 1962. The place has trees fallen down all over area and there has been no attempt to keep the underbrush cleaned out. There was plot that used a large headstone with one surname on each side that was kept as clean and pretty as possible. Many of the very large beautiful headstones were toppled over. Just a dreadful mess. I got as many of the readings as I could. There was a large marker with the name McKinney on one side and the following names all on the other side. There were no dates on the marker. Names as follows: McKinney, William C. and Clara McKinney, Alleen Davis, Ruth McKinney Station, Lena McKinney McKinney, William R. McKinney, Heyward H. There were seven very large beautiful markers pushed over and some of the footstones had been moved about. There was evidence of quite a number of graves without markers or the markers had been carried away. This one is a Classic Case Of Neglect. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
