South Carolina This indenture made the 20th day of March in the year of our
Lord one thousand seven hundred eighty seven & in the eleventh year of the
Sovreignty & Independence of the United States of America, Between Thos. P.
HIGHTOWER of Spartanburgh County Ninety Six District  and state aforesaid of
the one part, and Joel TRAYLOR of the County, District, & State aforesaid of
the other part.  Witnesseth that the said Thomas HIGHTOWER  for & in
Consideration of the sum of Twenty five pounds, sterling money,, hath
granted, bargained, sold, aliened, Released, Conveyed & Confirmed , And by
these presents, doth bargain, Sell, Alien, Release, Convey & Confirm, unto
the said Joel TRAYLOR, into his actual possession now being by virtue of a
bargain & sale to him thereof made for one whole year, by an Indenture of
Lease bearing date the day next below, the day of the date of these presents
and force of the statutes for Transfering of uses into possession, & to him &
his heirs & assigns forever, a plantation or Tract of land containing one
hundred acres , situate in the County of Spartanburg & District aforesaid, on
the No. Fork of Tygar River.  Beginning at an ash near the River, Runs So40W
17 chas. 50  links to a stake Thence No.31W 23 chains 809 links to a stake,
on Jno. TIMMONS's line , thence No.59Et. along sd. TIMMONS's line, 41 chains,
to a stake thence So31Et. 38 chains 50 links to a Red Oak , thence So.57Wt.
16 chains 50 links to a Dogwood, at the River thence up the several meanders
of the sd. River to the Beginning, it being part of a plantation or Tract of
one hundred & fifty acres of land, which was given and granted unto Wm.
McMAHAN by his Excellency Wm. TRYON Esqr. Govr. in and over the province of
No. Carolina by grant bearing date the 26th day of October AD 1767 & by a
lease & Release from the sd. Wm. McMAHAN to David CALHOUN, and also a lease &
Release from the said David CALHOUN to Thos. HIGHTOWER , Together with all &
singular the gardens, orchards, Fences, Ways, Waters, WaterCourses, Easements
profits, Commodities,  advantages with monuments, heriditaments &
appurtenances ( word struck out) own, to the sd. plantation or Tract of Land,
belonging, or in anywise appurtaining, and the reversion and reversions ,
remainder & remainders  (word illegible) & profits thereof, and also all
Estate, right, Title, Interest possession property , profit, Claim, & Demand
whatsoever, either in law or in Equity of the said Thomas HIGHTOWER, his
heirs and assigns & all  & every person or persons whatsoever, of into or out
of sd. plantation or Tract, of one Hundred acres of Land, To have and to hold
the aforesaid Tract of one Hundred acres of Land hereby granted and Released
or meant or intended to be granted or Released, with their and every of their
appurtenances , unto the said Joel TRAYLOR, his heirs and assigns forever,and
the said Thomas HIGHTOWER for himself his heirs Exers. Admrs. or assigns and
every of them, the said (two words illegible) granted & Bargained premises,
with the appurtaining.

Before the sealing and delivery hereof the Receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged.  Hath bargained & sold, & by these presents doth Bagarain &
sell, unto the said Joel TRAYLOR  his heirs Exor. Admrs. & assigns, a
plantation or Tract of land Containing One Hundred acres (word illegible) in
Spartanburgh County, and ninety six district, on the No. Fork of Tygar River
.  Beginning at an Ashnear the River runs So.40Wt. 176 chains 50 links to a
stake, thence No31Wt 23chas. 80 links to a stake on Jno. TIMMONS's line,
thence No.59Et. along said TIMMONS's line 41 chains to stake thence So.40East
28 chas 50 links to a Red Oak, thence so.59Wt.16 chains 50 links to a Dogwood
ath the River, Thence up the several meanders of the sd. River to the
Beginning, it part of a plantation or Tract of Land of One hundred & fifty
acres, which was given and granted to Wm. McMAHAN by his Excellency Wm. TRYON
Esqr. Govr. & Commander & Chief in and over the province of N. Carolina, by
grant bearing date the 26 day of October one thousand seven hundred& sixty
seven , & by a Lease & Release from the sd. Wm. McMAHAN to David CALHOUN &
also  by a Lease & Release from the sd. David CALHOUN to Thomas HIGHTOWER ,
Together with all and singular the Houses, gardens, orchards Fences, ways,
water and Watercourses, Easements, profits, commodities, Advantages &
monuments, Heridaments & apprutenances whatsoever to the said plantation or
Tract belongingor in anywise appurtaining and the reversion and reversions,
Remainder and remainders, thereof and every part and parcel thereof.  To Have
and to hold the said plantation or Tract of  one hundred acres of Land and
all and singular others  the premises herein before granted.  And Intended to
be herebyu Bargained & sold and part 7 parcel with these and Every of their
and every of their (sic) apputenances unto the sd. Joel TRAYLOR  his heirs,
Exors. Administrators & assigns from the day next before the day of the date
of of these presents , for and during the full term, & with the full end &
term of one whole year , from thence next ensuing & fullyto be compleated &
ended by adding (?) and paying therefore unto the said  Thos. HIGHTOWER, his
Exors. or Admrs. the rent of one (word illegible) (word struck out) of corn
on the last day of the said term , if the same shal be as Lawfully demanded .
 To the intent and purpose that the said Joel TRAYLOR , by virtue thereof and
by force of the statutes, for Transfering of uses into possession may be
escheat possession of the premises herein before mentioned, and intended to
be hereby bargained  & sold, and every part and parcel, thereof with and
ievery of their appurtenances, and may hereby Enabled to  (word illegible) &
take full possession and a release , of the Revision and Inheritance of the
same, to him & his heirs for ever.  
In witness whereof the said Thomas HIGHTOWER hath set his hand & seal the day
& year first above written.
