MACAULEY has gone to Abbeville, where he will officiate today at the HARRIS-MORROW wedding. MRS. THEODOSIA COLLINS and little son, Master EUGENE , left today for Georgetown, where they will stay for a month visiting relatives. MISS MATTIE MOORE & MISS OCTAVIA JONES will leave Saturday for Laurens, where they will visit MR. & MRS. JOHN MOORE. MRS. W.G. LEE and little, MARY ANDERSON LEE have returned after a visit to their old home in Virginia. MISS CATHERINE SHOPE has returned to her home in Asheville after spending a few days here. MRS. BESSIE WOOD & MISS LILLIAN JONES have returned to their home in Gaffney. MISS MAE SUE EPTON has returned to Tryon. MR.& MRS. SLOAN CRAWFORD are spending a few days in New York City. MRS. J.C. CREECH has returned to Gaffney after a visit to MRS. WILLIAM WEBSTER. MRS. L.R. FLACK & MRS. T.J. BROWN have returned to Gaffney after spending a few days here. SUE TARBOUX SOCIETY: The Sue Tarboux Missionary Society of Central Meth. ch. held an unusually interesting meeting Monday at the residence of MISS ROSA SPROTT on North Church St. The society is now studying China. A short sketch of the country was read by MISS MARIA MULLIGAN, the sketch was prepared by MISS HELEN DuPRE. CLINTON; Jan. 25. Last Wed. afternoon MISS ANNIE LOU ABELL of Lowryville and DR. J. LEE YOUNG of this city were united in marriage, the REV. F.D. JONES of the Presbyterian church performed the ceremony. DAVID CLARENCE BESSER, 27 years old of Trenton, N.J. who has been in the county jail, awaiting trial on a charge of practicing medicine without a license was released when J.C. GOODLETT furnished bond for him in the sum of $400. Immediately after his release Besser was married in the office of J.J.BURNETT, judge of probate, by J.B. GWYNN, to MISS JULIA MARIE HOOVER, 24 years old of Cherokee Springs. Besser was arrested in Charleston last autumn but after two trials in the US Court in Columbia was found not guilty. Besser was charged in Sptbg. earlier for failure to return to BUD PARRIS of Chesnee, a buggy which he said he hired from Parris to drive to Mayo. MARRIAGE LICENSES; Probate Judge, J.J. DELLA RIDINGS, both of Chesnee, both of whom have been married before. FIGHT MAY HAVE A FATAL ENDING: Jonesville Feb. 4. J.W. CAMERON, a loom fixer in the cotton mill was severely cut by OTTO KIRBY, a weaver yesterday. The cause was a trivial matter. DR. H.T. HAMES does not think the victim will survive his wounds. Kirby has been carried to jail. Both men have good reputations. [did he live?] LOSES BOTH LEGS IN TRAIN ACCIDENT: Greenwood Feb.4. YARBOROUGH, a white man had both legs cut off by a through freight on the Seaboard at Lota seven miles east of here this afternoon. The report received appears that Yarborough and his wife had just came to Lota to work on a farm. Their household effects were suppose to arrive by freight today and both were at the station. In some way he got under the train and was run over, loosing both legs below the knees. Reports give little hope for his recovery. MISS RUTH LAWRENCE WEDS REV. J.W. LEWIS A lovely home marriage at the residence of MRS. W.A. MILSTER on South Church St. when Miss Lawrence became the bride of Rev. Lewis of Summerville. Miss Lawrence was attended by her sister, MISS SELMA LAWRENCE of Darlington, SC. Conducted by REV. MR. BRUNSON of Bethel. SPARTANS GIVE $ 246. FOR RELIEF OF FLOOD VICTIMS: Citizens who did not attend the meeting last night can send their contributions today to JOHN WOOD, tres., who will give the money to DR.R.P. PELL, Sptbg. rep of the Red Cross. At the meeting, Prof. FRANK EVANS , Supt. of schools, nominated Mayor O.I. JOHNSON but Mayor JOHNSON seconded the nomination of MR. EVANS, who was elected. JOHN WOOD, sect. of the Chamber of Commerce was elected Tres., and C.O. HEARON , Editor of the Herald, secretary. MR. EVANS remarked " by reciting any of the horrible details of the destruction that has swept the middle west, one single incident-the sweeping away of a public schoolhouse containing 400 children is enough." He feels sure the citizens will willingly respond to the call for aid. Gov. Cox at Columbia, stated it was worse than the San Francisco Earthquake. It is estimated that 70,000 persons are homeless and thousands have lost their lives in the flood that swept through Ohio. DUNCAN: MR. CLARENCE WOOD is very ill with pneumonia at this writing. MR.and MRS.WILL WOOD, have returned to their home at Gaston, after visiting MRS. WOOD'S PARENTS, MR. & MRS.E.J. TIMMERMAN. MRS. CLARK BUTLER of near Holly Springs visited her parents, MR.& MRS. E.J.TIMMERMAN Thursday. Mr. H.P. McMAKIN has moved his family to the farm on Wellford. MRS. A.M. SMITH is visiting her parents at Fountain Inn. GRAMLING: PROF. CRANE and MR. COSTER returned home after spending the holidays with their home people in Charlotte and Greer. MISS EDNA HARRIS returned home in Fort Mill after spending time with home people. PROPRIETORS OF SOCIAL CLUBS CHARGED: As a result of the investigation into the operation of the social clubs in Sptbg. by the grand jury true bills were returned yesterday against J.R. PARRIS, J.V.WORLEY, JAMES GEORGE and W.F. TINSLEY all of whom are charged with selling , storing, transporting and keeping a place of nuisance. It is said that someone in Sptbg. is furnishing the clubs money or furnishing the beer. This phase of the clubs will be investigated later. ANDERSON NEWS: MRS. S.J. PEOPLES who has been spending sometime in Asheville, has been the guest of her mother, MRS. S.BLECKLEY. MRS. CHESTER PLANT, who has been visiting her parents, MR. & MRS. W.D. SIMPSON, has returned to her home in Memphis. MISS MYRTLE BURRISS is visiting her sister, MRS. GATLIN, in Bishopville. MRS. J. LAWRENCE MAXWELL has returned to her home in Savannah. She was accompanied by her sister, MRS. JOHN R. COCHRAN, JR. MR. WM. ORTALE, who has been located here for the past year has been transfered to Greenville. DR. W.C. THOMPSON, formerly from Anderson, now from Dublin, Ga. brought his bride here for a visit to his relatives. The R.E. LEE CHAPTER, U.D.C. , held their annual"RALLY" in the parlor of the Hotel Chiquola: The only business transacted was that R.E.LEE'S birthday should be celebrated by giving a dinner to the surviving veterans on the 18th. DAVIS has moved his family into the house formerly occupied by by MRS.M.S. BROWN, on Howard Gap Road. Our genial merchant, landlord and fertilizer dealer, MR. W.F. BAGGOTT is wearing an expansive smile this week over the birth of a fine girl. REV. J.A. COOK, pastor of Inman circuit has moved here from near Carlisle Church. Brother Cook and his fine family will be a valuable addition to our town and we expect to have the new parsonage ready for occupancy this summer. REMARKABLE CASE IN NORTH CAROLINA: Hendersonville-Jan18. Two women widely separated who married brothers received fatal injuries under precisely similar circumstances while performing the same duties and died at the same time. The story reported; On Dec. 29, MRS. H.M. WALKER was bathing her infant child by an open flame in her home. Her clothes became ignited and she was horribly burned. She was taken to hospital and died Jan. 7. The child was uninjured. On Dec. 31, MRS. R.L. WALKER , a sister-in-law of H.M. WALKER, was also bathing her child in Buncombe Co. same happened to her . The two women married two brothers and they were both called by the same pet name, "Lula". Their funerals were held the same day after they both died the same day and same hour. Mrs. H.M. Walker was preparing to visit her sister-in-law who soon suffered the same horrible experience. MR. and MRS. W.C.
