The name of the killed is Wilson Sosbe, the other, Joseph Hughey. We understand that Joseph Hughey has made his escape. It originated from an old grudge, we understand. The particulars we refrain from naming, as it no doubt will, should apprehension take place, be impartially investigated." Edgefield Advertiser Wed Jul 30, 1845 State of South Carolina Executive Department Columbia, 7th July 1845 By His Excellency William Aiken, Esq. Govenor and Commander in Chief in and over the State of South Carolina. Whereas, information has been received at this Department, that an atrocious murder was committed on the 18th of June last, in Spartanburg District, by JOSEPH HUGHEY, on the body of Wilson Sosbee, and that the said Joseph Hughey has fled from justice: Now know ye, that to the end justice may be done,and that the said Joseph Hughey may be brought to legal trial for his offence as aforesaid, I do hereby offer a reward of TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS for his apprehension and delivery into any Jail in this State. Joseph Hughey is described as being about f feet 6 inches high, has very black beard, inclined to be bald headed, has a stammering in his speech, and squinting eyes very much while in conversation, has a large mole over one of the eyes, weighs about 165lbs. and is about thirty years of age. Given under my hand and the seal of the State of Columbia, this 7th day of July, A.
