Mrs. Parton resided at 320 Briarwood Road in Spartanburg for forty-nine years, prior to moving to White Oak Estates. She was born on Feb. 23, 1919, in Taylors, to the late Leonard Avery and Annie Holcombe Cox. Mrs. Parton is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, two daughters, a son, seven grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, two sisters, and three brothers. A member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg for over fifty years, Mrs. Parton worked with the G.A.'s, taught Sunday School and was a member of the "Yesterday's Teens Choir". She retired from the cartographic unit of the Spartanburg Soil Conservation Service. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 21, 2003, in the Davis Chapel of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, with Dr. Don Wilton, the Rev. Sal Barone, the Rev. Bob Morgan and the Rev. Bill Adams officiating. Ken Fox and Joel Kelly will give the eulogies. The Rev. Steve Skinner will sing "I'd Rather Have Jesus," and David Wells will sing "I'll Tell the World that I'm a Christian", and also singing will be the "Yesterday's Teens Choir". In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the "Yesterday's Teens" Mission Tour Travel Fund, or to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service in the Davis Chapel of First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Lanford-Dunbar Funeral Home.
