B, pp. 454-456: Will of Jonas Brewton, Sr. South Carolina, Spartanburgh District: In the name of God Amen - I Jonas Bruton, Senior, of the District and State aforesaid being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make constitute and ordain this my last Will and testament in manner and form following that is to say: First - It is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. Secondly - It is my will and desire that after my death my whole estate real and personal not otherwise disposed of during my life be equally divided amongst all my children who are living at the time of my death and the children of such as may be dead, such children of a deceased child to receive amongst them if more than one, the share to which their parent would have been entitled if living and it is my will and desire that my said children and grandchildren, on the settlement of my Estate do account for the following advancements heretofore made to them, as well as for any other advancements that I may hereafter make to them or any of them - To wit John Bragg and his wife Linny Bragg are to account for five hundred and twenty five dollars, - Starling Willis and Cynthia his wife are to account for eight hundred dollars, - William Clayton and Elizabeth his wife are to account for eight hundred and twenty five dollars, - David Brewton is to account for eight hundred dollars the children of Jemima King are to account for three hundred and seventy five dollars received by her during her life - David B. King is to account for two hundred and fifty four dollars received by him since the death of his mother - Elizabeth Mason wife of James P. Mason is to account for fifteen dollars received since the death of her mother Jemima King - Mancil King is to account for one hundred and eighty-eight dollars received since the death of his mother - Jonas Bruton Junior is to account for five hundred dollars, heretofore received and also the sum of twelve hundred dollars the price of my land which I own in this State, and which I have conveyed to him to be his at my death which conveyance I now ratify and confirm and for which sum of twelve hundred dollars I hold his note, and for which he is not to account for interest until after my death - Eliza Hollis wife of Willis Hollis and child of my deceased daughter Sarah Harris is to account for two hundred and thirty five dollars heretofore received - Linny Lanford wife of Chaney Lanford also a child of my deceased daughter Sarah Harris is to account for fifty dollars heretofore received - Wiley I Harris son of my deceased _______________ (cannot read) two hundred and ninety two dollars - Nancy E. Debard daughter of my deceased child Sarah Harris and wife of George E. Debard is to account for three hundred and fifty dollars heretofore received. Thirdly - It is my will and desire that all advancements hereafter made to any of my children or grandchildren are to be accounted for also on a settlement of my Estate. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 20th day of March 1851. Jonas Brewton Senior (Seal) South Carolina Spartanburgh District: Codicil Whereas I Jonas Brewton Senr by last will and testament dated the 20th of March 1857 in the second clause of said Will have directed and devised that "after my death my whole Estate real and personal not otherwise disposed of during my life be equally divided amongst all my children who are living at my death, and the children of such as may be dead, such children of a deceased child to receive amongst them if more than one, the share to which their parent would be entitled if living" and whereas it may happen that the child or children of a deceased child may die during my life, leaving a child or children, now by way of Codicil to this my said last will and testament aforesaid I the said Jonas Brewton Senr do will and direct by way of alteration of the said Second clause of my will that should it so happen that any child or children of any deceased child or children of any deceased child or children of mine should die before I do and before my will takes effect that such child or children of the child or children of one of my deceased children shall be entitled under this my will to receive the share of my Estate to which their parent or parents if more than one would have been entitled if living Witness my hand and Seal this 16th day of May 1857.
