He was the father of Elizabeth "Betsy" (WARD) CARTER and I believe a portion of this land was deeded to her children in 1882 and that a portion of the land referred to as belonging to Nathaniel PAGE was later dedicated to become the New Hope Church near Jonesville in Union County. DEED TRANSCRIPTION: James Ward to Absolom Ward Deed of Conveyance 208 acres South Carolina Union district Know by all men by these presents that I, James Ward, of the aforesaid District & State in Consideration of One thousand & forty dollars to me paid by Absolom Ward of the State & District aforesaid have granted bargained sold & released & by these presents do grant bargain sell & release unto the said Absolom Ward all that piece of land containing two hundred & eight acres more or less situate in Union District on the branch of fair Forest Creek being pieces of lands long known by the name of Smith & Guin [?] tracts sold by James Ward. Bound on the west by Col. Clonney, on the South by lands belonging to Wm Long: on the east by Nath. Page; having such forms and marks as the annexed [?] plat represents together with all and singular the rights member here detainents appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or appertaining to have & to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Absolom Ward his heirs and assigns forever. And I do hereby bind myself my heirs executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said Absolom Ward his heirs and assigns against my self and my heirs. Witness my hand and Seal this the thirtieth day of December in the year of our Lond one thousand eight hundred and forty four and being the sixty ninth year of American Independence his Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of James (X) Ward mark John Mayer Jackson Forbis Personally appeared before me John Mayer and made oath that he saw James Ward Sign Seal and Deliver the within deed of Conveyance for the purposes therein mentioned and that he with Jackson Forbis in the presence of each other witnessed the due execution thereof Sworn to before me the 27thth of April 1847 John Mayer Jas. Wailin one of the Magistrates of the State and District aforesaid do hereby certify unto all whom it may concern that Harriet Ward the wife of James Ward did this day appear before me and upon being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she does freely, voluntarily and without any compulsion dread or fears of any person or persons whomsoever renounce release and forever relinquish unto Absolom Ward his heirs and assign all her right and claim of Dower of in or to all and singular the premises formerly belonging to my husband James Ward as aforesaid.
