The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *************************************************************************** Peter Clinton, widow Frances (nee) Bradner, Wid File # 9390 "...Peter Clinton lived with one Joseph Bradner on Crowder's Creek, in York District, South Carolina, before he entered the Revolution, and served as a Captain of South Carolina troops, as follows: for three months under Colonel Neel in the "Snow Campaign"; from July 8 to October 11, 1776, in expedition against the Cherokee Indians; from February 1, to April 9, 1779, under General Williamson, and was afterwards in general service until his death in the Spring of 1780. [See below affidavit - mlj] "Soldier married in 1776 or 1777, Frances Bradner who died November 13, 1847. They had two children, Joseph born March 10, 1778, and Margaret born May 24, 1780; Joseph survived in 1850, at which time he resided in York District, South Carolina, and applied for the pension due on account of the services of his father as set forth above. The claim was allowed. Very respectfully, E. C. ?Tiernan, Acting Commissioner Certificate of Pension issued 6 March 1852 based on services of Peter Clinton, Capt. of Calvary, $202.50 per annum. 4 June 1851, affidavit of Thomas Maclean: State of North Carolina, Gaston County } Before me personally appeared Thomas Maclean a resident citizen of said county, aged 87 years who being first duly sworn according to law says that he was intimately and personally acquainted with Peter Clinton whose heir is now an applicant for pension in right of his mother Frances B. Clinton, wife and widow of Capt. Peter Clinton from his first recollection up to the time of his the Said Capt Peter Clintons death which took place during the Revolutionary War. The said Peter Clinton lived with Joseph Bradner on Crowders Creek and assisted him in tending a grist and saw mill where deponent after saw him (as the deponent was a small boy) before the Snow Campaign of 1775 and well recollects that the said Capt Peter Clinton commanded a company in the Snow Campaign in 1775 and the next year commanded a company in the Cherokee or Indian Campaign in 1776 and was afterward in service when around or up to the time of his death the ___ tours in Col Neals Regiment in the Snow and Indian Campaigns Deponent was ?going to ____ in 1775 in ?time of the Snow Campaign to Joseph Blythe who was afterwards studied medicine and was a surgeon in the Continental line of North Carolina at the close of the Revolutionary War and Deponents brother Dr William Maclean was surgeons mate in the same line Which facts as well as its being the first service rendered in the Revolutionary War makes Deponent distinctly recollect the date. Deponent recollects seeing several of the soldiers returning from the Snow Campaign and crossed the South Fork in a flat owned by Deponents father as the river was much swolen by the melting of the Snow which gave the Campaign its name - The said Peter Clinton married Frances Braden shortly after the commencement of the Revolution with whom he lived up to the time of his death and the said Frances died a few years back not having intermarried after the death of the said Peter Clinton with whom Deponent was well acquainted.
