Charles Barbier, a Frenchman of good education, who had lived in Ohio some years, and who had been employed as a fur trader, came to Pease "island" in 1861, and was employed by F. D. Pease. Next he engaged in the wood business, and in 1867 he files on a homestead on Papineau bottom which he sold in 1893 and moved to his present home in the Pease Valley east of Geddes. He served several years as county commissioner and his name also appears as one of the officers of the earlier Lamonte organization of the county.
