Bruno Cournoyer, a French Canadian, came to Papineau bottom about 1868 and lived on land joining Ge. Campbell's. He and his Sioux wife have lived in Charles Mix county ever since. His name appears quite frequently in the records of the early organization of the county. He also served as county commissioner under the regular organization. In 1886 he removed to his wife's allotment near the lake, where he died in 1904.
