Martin Escacerga, a Mexican, but claiming himself to be a Spaniard, came here in the early seventies and worked for Peter Martin in the wood business along the river for some time. He had lived on Papineau bottom or in the south part of the Pease Valley ever since his arrival. He proved up on the northwest quarter of sec. 7-96-66 where the Bartholdi store opposite the "Red, White and Blue" school house stands. He now lives on the bank of Spring creek a little over a mile east of this school house. His wife is the half blood daughter of Peter Martin.
