Hamilton came into this county in the 50's as headman for the Northwestern Fur Company. He lived at various places up and down the river, making White Swan his home from about 1862 to the time of his death at Platte creek in 1868. He owned the Felicia Fallas ranch, the latter caring for his herds. He never lived on Hamilton island.
