Hewitt and wife came into the county early in 1879 and bought the Felicia Fallas ranch on section 36 Castalia township, near what is now the Adams Denmead ranch. Later Hewitt homesteaded in the adjoining section 31 in Platte township. Mrs. Hewitt was appointed postmistress of the Platte creek postoffice and held the position until Castalia was established. Mr. Hewitt and family removed to Iowa in 1892 where Mr. Hewitt died in 1893. Their daughter Mabel Winona Hewitt, now Mrs. Geo. Toll of Allison, Iowa, was born Aug. 9, 1880 on the Platte creek ranch referred to above, the first white girl born in the old county.
