Oldham settled on his farm where he still resides in Signal township in 1877. His wife at that time was a member of the Sioux nation. Oldham has steadfastly refused to mix up in the political history of the county, but "Nick" as he is familiarly called is well and favorably remembered by the early settlers, to many of whom on the prairie he supplied wood for fuel and building purposes before the railroads made coal and lumber accessible.
