Pease, now deceased, settled on Pease island in 1857 and remained seven or eight years. His wife was a quarter-blood Crow, said to have been a very beautiful woman. Pease was engaged in trade on the frontier and had many and varied interests, and before his death became very wealthy. He was the first representative from Charles Mix county to the territorial legislature. He is described as a man of good education, a good speaker in public, and had fine business abilities. C. Ed. Anderson says of him that he, like all other traders of his time, "lived on an island with a keg of whiskey." From here he went to Ft. Berthold, Montana, later became agent to the Crows, and was sent to congress from that state.
